A few nights ago, on a quiet local train from Perungalathur to Tambaram, something small yet strangely beautiful happened.
Just as I settled into the silence, a little brown dog climbed in, calm, unhurried, as if he had taken this route many times before. He sat near the open doorway, letting the night breeze brush against him while he stared out into the darkness.
He didn’t bark.
He didn’t beg.
He just existed… peacefully, confidently, beautifully.
After a while, he walked around the compartment, slow steps, curious eyes, almost as if he was exploring a world that belonged to him too. And somehow, watching him move in that quiet space felt comforting. There was a kind of freedom in him… a quiet acceptance of whatever life had given him.
When the train slowed down at Tambaram, he stood up, glanced outside as if recognizing his stop, and hopped out without hesitation. No collar, no owner in sight, just a wandering soul disappearing into the night.
That moment stayed with me.
Maybe because in a world full of noise and rush, this little dog reminded me what it looks like to simply live, to take life one stop at a time, without fear, without hurry, without holding on too tightly.
Sometimes the most unexpected travellers teach us the most beautiful lessons.
